How to Prep Your Home for Summer II

Last week we showed you some basic tips and tricks to get your home on track for summer weather. This week we cover some in-depth things you should do for your home. Remember, summer only comes once a year and maintenance of your home is important! You can always enlist your friends, family, or neighbors to help you with these!

1. Wash your windows.

Summer is here so let the light in! Wash both the interior and exterior of your windows to get a fresh, clean feeling in every room.

2. Set up bug/insect repellents.

Summer also means the return of insects and other pests, protect your home from intruders by installing bug nets/screens on your windows and doors. (If you have a porch you use frequently, you should consider adding netting around your porch as well.) Adding repellents around your home to keep out ants, termites, and other pests are also beneficial.

3. Check your rain gutters.

Winter can dredge all sorts of things into your gutters, so make sure to clear them out each spring. Check for tears, leaks, and other forms of damage on your gutters.

4. Repair walkways/driveways.

With the sun back out it's a great time to repair your walkways and driveways from any damage that happened over the winter. Walkways can deteriorate rapidly over time, so checking on cracks is important to ensure your safety. Repairing these areas is a simple way to decrease trips and falls.

5. Tidy up your lawn.

Pull out your lawnmower, plant some more soil or grass, maybe even start up a little garden. A yard or lawn is a simple way to freshen up your home for summer!
