April Newsletter

play cool, stay cool

Take me out to the ballpark, take me out with the crowd, buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks…… even people like myself (not a baseball fan) know the rest of the words, sorry if it’s now stuck in your head, I bring it up because it’s that time of year and a great example of what we are all about at ThermApparel, being active, enjoying the outdoors and participating in life, our motto is play cool, stay cool.

Here in our amazing city of Rochester, NY spring just sprung yesterday. The Rochester Red Wings, our local baseball team, postponed opening day 3 times because of snow and when they finally played their first game it was in the 40’s (no need to bring your UnderCool to this game). As we are always focused on beating the heat here at ThermApparel in Upstate New York (..I know it is very ironic that we live in a place that received 119 inches of snow this winter WOW!) it’s never bad to embrace your inner Boy Scout and always be prepared. Spring is here to bounce us into the boys of summer.

For many of us the heat can be very serious and we don’t want to speak lightly of it. The heart of ThermApparel lies with this, play cool, stay cool, what do you want to experience this summer? Ball games, backyard BBQs, graduations, the beach or maybe the mountains? How about 9 holes of golf? A bike ride, going to the lake, your kids soccer game, picnics, concerts, festivals, tennis/pickle ball, socializing on the deck or spending the evening around a bonfire while camping and sleeping under the stars? For me I look forward to gardening, mowing the lawn, working on the house and even sitting on the porch watching the sunset. Whatever you end up doing this summer make sure you do something creative and something you’ve never done before.

What do all these activities have in common? They are exercise. Every time I go to my primary care doctor, I get the what I call the  “I should have listen more to my mother speech” …get more sleep, eat your vegetables, and exercise. The first two are really not that hard, but the 3rd one that gets me every time. I know, I know we have all heard it before. If I told you I had something that reduces stress, makes you sleep better, increases flexibility, can prevent heart disease, pressure sores, diabetes, and improve dormant neuro-pathways, help depression and increase social activities, and its free, (for the most part) it’s too good to be true. For me I have found a new way to exercise, make it an activity. It’s simple, exercise is movement; and after time and enough movement, life improves. So how do we make this a twofer? Think of something fun to do and find someone to do it with (see list of activities above, ok ok watching the sunset may not count as exercise, but it’s a good way to destress.) put on your UnderCool and play cool, stay cool.

Your UnderCool helps you exercise, use it to help improve you health with a little less pain. We’ve heard from an inspiring women in Organ who wears her UnderCool while doing Tae Kwon Do. Holly fruit punch Batman! That is awesome! But, Please!! ALWAYS check with your doctor first before diving into the deep end and starting an exercise program. Below are some good links to learn more about exercise with MS and spinal cord injuries. We want to know how you exercise in your UnderCool and what you like to do. Send us a pick and a story! You can send it to us via email, Instagram, Facebook or our website.

MS Society exercise tips

In addition to being essential to general health and well-being, exercise is helpful in managing many MS symptoms. A study published by researchers at the University of Utah in 1996 was the first to demonstrate the benefits of exercise for people with MS. Those patients who participated in an aerobic exercise program benefited from:

Active MSers exercise tips

How important is it to exercise if you have multiple sclerosis? Hugely. One leading MS researcher put exercising on the same level as taking a disease modifying therapy. It is more important than virtually anything else that you can personally do to manage your multiple sclerosis.

making it better

Making It Better is going to be a new monthly section in our newsletter. We want to know what you find amazing about your UnderCool, what you would like to see changed or how can we make it better for you.

Making It Better came from inspiration from a very creative woman who reached out to us with her thoughts and suggestion on how to make the UnderCool better for her.

She suggested that we needed to tell people about the convince of having 2 UnderCool’s instead of 1. She uses her 1 UnderCool everyday at work and goes to the bathroom to take it off and switch out the cooling packs, which can take a bit of time. After getting a 2nd vest, it completely changed the way she works.

In honor of her great idea we have created The Adventure Bundles. 2 UnderCool’s and 8 cooling packs for $359.99. The best part is you get the choice of 2 black UnderCools, 2 White UnderCools or with The Adventure Safari Bundle, 1 white UnderCool and 1 black UnderCool.

How do you use your UnderCool for work? Let us know via email, Instagram, Facebook or our website.
