How to Stay Cool at Night

What's worse than trying to fall asleep in a boiling hot room? Do you love the great outdoors but dread sleeping in a cramped, hot tent? You need your sleep to go on adventures, so we've got 4 easy ways to keep cool on those hot summer nights!

1. Ventilate your room

Whether you're at home or in a tent, it's important to create room for proper air flow. Place a fan to invite cool air out, and open a window so warm air can escape. If you have a ceiling fan, make sure it is set to turn counter-clockwise to push air towards you.

2. Prep your bedding

For the summer, stick to cotton blend sheets, linen in particular, so that your bed does not absorb too much extra heat overnight. While there are a plethora of new pillows and even mattresses out on the market that claim to cool you throughout the night, proper bedding is important or those features are wasted.

3. Cool yourself

It's important to go to bed already feeling cool and calm. You may want to take a cool shower before bedtime or even dip your hands and feet in cold water. You can also cool yourself from the inside by eating foods with high water content or even drinking a glass of water before bed.

4. Keep cooling aides at hand

Sometimes, the precautions you take to stay cool enough to fall asleep do not last throughout the night. Waking up in the middle of the night feeling very hot is normal but annoying. Keep some auxiliary cooling aides, like cooling packs or another glass of water, by your bed to help cool you back to sleep again.
